The Club Dates were constructed using Ludwig’s classic 3-ply shells and outfitted with a hardware configuration that allowed them to be designated as a “budget” alternative to the same-sized Downbeat kit. Galaxy Pearl is a high-class finish that was only available for 2 catalog years (1962-’63), and this paired with the nickel-plated hardware and very clean condition makes for a rare and very desirable combination.
The drums tune up nicely and sound rich, tubby, and focused. As far as classic, vintage tone, it truly doesn’t get much better than this.
